The work
Every LSF spacecraft runs on open-source flight software written in-house, from the on-board computer to the payload. This role writes and maintains it.
A typical month mixes:
- Flight software. Applications for payload controllers and on-board computers, on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and Zynq-class embedded Linux.
- Drivers. RF transceivers, sensors, storage and the buses between them.
- Timing. Synchronisation with PPS signals and disciplined clocks.
- Telemetry and telecommand. CCSDS protocols and safe software-update paths.
- Testing. On our flatsat and in hardware-in-the-loop setups, with code review in the open on GitLab.
What we’re looking for
- 2–5 years of embedded C or C++. Experience with Rust, or a serious interest in it, is a plus.
- Bare-metal or RTOS work (FreeRTOS, Zephyr), embedded Linux, or both.
- At home with an oscilloscope and a logic analyser.
- Space experience is not required.
- Fluent English. Greek is a plus.
How we work
LSF is a self-managing, open-source non-profit. We make decisions in the open, prefer durable docs over standing meetings, and review each other’s work on GitLab. This role is on site at our Athens HQ (Irous 21, 104 42 Athens), next to the cleanroom and lab where our flight hardware is integrated and tested. We aim for a start between December 2026 and February 2027.
We weigh fit with the foundation and its mission at least as heavily as fit with the position. Read more in our hiring documentation.
