Donation terms

Before you donate.

What happens with the money, how you get receipts, what’s deductible, and the paperwork that kicks in for larger donations under Greek anti-money-laundering law.

Charitable purpose

Libre Space Foundation (AMKE) is a Greek civil non-profit company whose object is the design, manufacture and operation of open-source space technologies — ground stations, satellites, deployers, ground segments, and the SatNOGS Network. Donations fund engineering time, hardware, and community outreach. Nothing is distributed to shareholders: there are none. See the transparency page for governance and how we handle conflicts of interest.

Greek tax-deductibility

Under Article 19 of Law 4172/2013, donations by natural persons to eligible non-profit entities may reduce the donor’s income tax liability. Eligibility requires that the recipient appears on the list maintained by the Greek Ministry of Finance (Υπουργείο Οικονομικών) and that specific formalities are met (donation receipt with the recipient’s VAT and the donor’s tax ID).

If you need a formal tax-deduction receipt, email info@libre.space with your full name and Greek tax ID (ΑΦΜ) and we’ll issue the documentation your accountant will ask for, in the format the Greek tax authority accepts.

Donors in other EU member states: your national law determines whether cross-border donations to Greek non-profits are deductible (see Case C-318/07 Persche). Ask your tax advisor.

Refund policy

Donations are, by their nature, not refundable. In genuine cases (accidental double-charge, unauthorised card use, clear mistake) email info@libre.space within thirty days of the transaction and we will refund through the original channel. For card donations, Stripe's dispute process also remains available to you.

Anti-money-laundering (Greek Law 4557/2018)

The foundation performs customer due diligence proportionate to donation size:

  • Under €500 — no donor identification required beyond what the payment processor collects.
  • €500 and above — donor identification collected per L.4557/2018 Art. 13 (full name, address, tax ID / passport). Card donations at this level fall under Stripe's KYC flow; SEPA donations require the donor to email a scanned ID prior to or at time of transfer.
  • €1,000 and above — enhanced due diligence including source-of-funds declaration. In practice we ask large donors to use SEPA transfer (below) with prior identification, which also avoids Stripe processing fees on the larger sum.

We are not a designated "obliged entity" under Art. 5 L.4557/2018; these thresholds are applied voluntarily as a matter of good governance and to support large donors' own compliance.

Receipts

Card donations via Stripe produce an automatic email receipt. For a formal donation receipt (with LSF’s VAT and your tax ID, in the format Greek tax authorities accept), reply to the Stripe receipt email and we will issue one within ten working days. SEPA donations get a formal receipt by default.
